Today was a very different day. Clear blue skies touched by the rare lazy clouds, bright sunshine, crisp temperatures and complete stillness in the air. So unusual. A day like this is a gift from the skies in the autumn.
Many people come out for walks or simply take longer routes to and from work to enjoy the unusually peaceful and sunny weather.
It was a perfect day for my beauty-hunting adventure and I was already on the way to the local park. Passing by a school where kids played outside, their minder shouting: “Button your coats kids!”, I joined the kids in a traditional childhood game “klassiki”. When there is a grid with numbers drown on the ground and you need to jump criss-crossing your feet from number 1 up to number 10 and back. Warms you up instantly! I laughed as the kids watched me jump with surprise. It is not often an adult joins them. It always lifts my spirits – doing something childish and cheeky, so I didn’t need to think twice to have a go a few times.
Smiling at my playful mood I went on and soon reached the park. Tall old trees towering up with their brunches spread wide and heavy, narrow paths covered in fallen leaves and the bright sun struggling to cut through the density of brunches in this old town park. I looked around for the golden-yellow-red-and-brown beauties but most trees still proudly held their green canopies. Here and there you could see a tree already touched by the sprinkle of gold but mostly, the green was still a ruler.
Wait Lidija, wait! The golden carnival will begin soon, the trees whispered :) I smiled and let my feet take me wherever…
My feet brought me to the nearby beach. My home town is spread along the shore line with a big long lake on the other side of it, so wherever you go it is most certain you will come across water. I love it! So here I came across a small local beach where windsurfers gather and people from nearby neighbourhoods walk their dogs.
I found myself in just the most perfect, gorgeous spot! Lack of wind meant the sea water looked seemingly still, like a big mirror reflecting the deep blue of the sky. Spreading wide and far. Making you take deeper breaths in the presence of such dramatic open space.
Warm bright sun shimmering on the soft waves. Like a path of white light leading to the place where all eternal things lie. Soft and gentle sound of the calm waves caressing the shore. Rolling and playing with the colour stones and white and pink sea shells. What a blissful place!
From seeing this stillness and softness all around me my insides relax instantly. I feel my soul and body soothe and become as soft as velvet. I didn’t even realise I held tension in my body and mind until I got here. Any worries of the passing days and uncertainty of the future melt away with the calming sounds and soft images surrounding me. I stood there mesmerised by the simplicity and yet such deep beauty of this place. How soothing and healing Mother Nature is!
Distant conversations of the dog walkers seem very far away. Soft breeze carries the words away from me. It is very comforting to have their presence around me and at the same time have the feeling like it is only me here. Sharing this intimate moment of connection with the sea and the sun.
I walk along the shore admiring the stillness of the sea. It is very rare in this town to see the sea so calm and inviting. So silky soft. More than often, the harsh sea winds make the sea roar and rumble as the water curls into powerful high waves and crashes into white foam onto the beach or the stone wave-brakers. Refreshing mist with a deep scent of salt and algae showering you from time to time when a particularly strong gash of wind comes.
But today the surface of the sea is as still as the water in a glass. This stillness makes me feel velvety from inside out. So incredibly soothing.
As I admire the sea, I notice low calm waves running slowly over the surface of the sea looking just like liquid caramel… This beauty astonishes me. On the rare days like this when the water is still and calm, the sand settles into a soft golden carpet. The clear water gently curls and unfolds as it approaches the shore. The shimmering reflections of light and the colour of the send – make the water look caramel! How magical.
I am not a selfie person but because I go for walks and explore on my own most of the time, this is the only opportunity for me to get me on the pics as well :) So here is my autumn beach selfie:
I take another slow, deep breath savouring this magical moment of pure joy and contentment. I smile to myself thinking how often it happens in life - you come out to look for one thing but find something very different – an even more precious jewel!
Today I came out autumn-colour hunting but found myself basking in the sun in, what felt like, the most peaceful place on Earth. Here is to our feet! Who know exactly where we would enjoy being the most :)
Love and Caramel.
Yours Lidija
